Director - Communications | American Express | New York, NY

As a member of the Global Business Travel Communications Management Team reporting directly to the Vice President, Global Communications, Director will have accountability for devising strategies and directing execution of a five-pronged communications strategy involving employee communications, customer communications, public relations and internal and external events and corporate messaging for the entire US and Canada business travel business.

The Director of North America Communications will be a member of the Global Communications leadership team, North America business leadership team (both client management/sales and service delivery) and the Global Operations business leadership team with the responsibility of representing all Communications activities in North America.

The Director will create and execute all North American based employee communication strategies, including company-wide messaging on behalf of SVP of Client Management and Sales, SVP of Service Delivery and the EVP of Global Operations. Director will also create and oversee management of North America employee communications tools used to consistently communicate information about the business. Additionally, Director will manage all critical employee communications and partner with HR on various employee-focused initiatives.

In addition to internal communications, Director will be responsible for communications to external audiences including clients, prospects and supplier partners. In partnership with Marketing, Client Management and Sales, messaging will promote the Business Travel Value Proposition and the strategy will support growth, retention and premiumization goals. Director will be accountable for creating and overseeing communications tools to communicate with our client base.

Director will be responsible for conceiving and implementing a dynamic public relations program to promote and protect the reputation of American Express Business Travel as the global leader in business travel management. Director will also oversee the activities of the North American Messaging team responsible for internal and external messaging, competitive intelligence, executive speechwriting and American Express positioning.

In line with internal and external communication strategies, Director will own and execute the North American Events program. This program will directly support growth and retention goals through Business Forums, Industry, Employee and Relationship Building events.

Director will oversee a team of seven employees responsible for executing the strategies (for their respective focus - Employee, Client, PR, Events) put in place and inline with the vision of the VP of Global Communications.

Director will have responsibility for building and deploying measurement strategies using quantitative and qualitative metrics to ensure executive satisfaction, and business results linkage. Results of communications efforts will need to be presented on a quarterly basis for the business to review.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This role demands a superior track record in strategy development, people management, networking capabilities, writing, and problem solving skills. Director must thrive in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment with an ability to operate with grace and perseverance when faced with new challenges each week. Director must have swift decision-making abilities and give appropriate direction to team so they operate effectively under minimal supervision. Director must be extremely organized, have solid multi-tasking abilities and operate in a very deadline driven environment. Director must be very accountability driven and execution focused committed to creating a communications program aligned to the team vision.

10-15 years experience in all of the above outlined areas is a must.
